We believe you have heard the news that after two days of continuous strikes, the workers in the West American ports are back.

Workers from the ports of Los Angeles, California, and Long Beach on the west coast of the United States showed up on the evening of the 7th, and the two major terminals resumed normal operations, sweeping away the haze that has caused the shipping industry to be tense due to the suspension of operations for two consecutive days.

Bloomberg News reported that Yusen Terminals, the chief executive of container handler in the Port of Los Angeles, said that the port resumed operations and workers showed up.

Lloyd, executive director of the Southern California Maritime Exchange, said that due to the current light traffic volume, the impact of the previous operation suspension on logistics was limited. However, there was a container ship that was originally scheduled to call at the port, so it delayed entering the port and lingered in the open sea.

Reuters reported that the container terminals in Los Angeles and Long Beach stopped operations suddenly on the evening of the 6th and the morning of the 7th, and were almost closed due to insufficient number of workers. At that time, a large number of port employees did not show up, including many operators responsible for loading and unloading containers.

The Pacific Maritime Association (PMA) alleges that port operations have been halted because labor is withholding labor on behalf of the International Terminal and Warehousing Union. Previously, the labor negotiations at the West West Terminal had lasted for several months.

The International Terminal and Warehouse Union responded that the slowdown was due to the shortage of labor as thousands of union members attended the monthly general meeting on the 6th and Good Friday fell on the 7th.

Through this sudden strike, we can see the importance of these two ports to the transportation of goods. For freight forwarders like Senghor Logistics, what we hope to see is that the port of destination can properly solve labor issues, allocate labor reasonably, operate efficiently, and finally let our shippers or cargo owners receive the goods smoothly and solve their needs for timeliness.
